2025 Budget: Reps Task NBTE, Polytechnics on Judicious Use of Funds

The House of Representatives on Friday tasked the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and Rectors of Polytechnics to ensure the judicious utilization of public funds approved for Polytechnics across Nigeria.

Chairman of the House Committee on Federal Polytechnics and Higher Technical Education, Hon. Kayode Laguda, gave the charge in Abuja during the 2024 budget performance and 2025 budget defense session presented by NBTE Executive Secretary, Professor Idris Bugaje.

“Performance is very key. And that is what will help us move forward in 2025. It is an acceptable and known fact that the Polytechnics are poorly funded. We know, but we need to justify our need for more and show why we need more,” Laguda said.

Laguda stressed the importance of government agencies judiciously utilizing allocated resources before requesting additional funds. He emphasized the need for Polytechnics to adopt modern courses and curricula relevant to their immediate environments.

NBTE’s Request for Increased Funding

Professor Bugaje called for increased budgetary allocation to recruit more personnel to supervise over 700 Polytechnics and technical institutions across the country. He highlighted that the agency’s operations are hindered by inadequate manpower and insufficient funding.
