JAMB to Impose Penalties on Applicants Who Falsely Claim Underage During UTME Registration
The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has announced that the board will penalize applicants who falsely claim to be underage during the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration.
During a visit to computer-based test (CBT) centers in Lagos, Oloyede revealed that out of 780,202 registered applicants, 11,512 were underage, with 443 discovered on the 10th day of the registration. He emphasized that only candidates aged 16 and above would be considered eligible and that any attempt to deceive the system would lead to penalties.
Oloyede criticized parents who enrolled children underage in primary school to advance their education and urged applicants to avoid wasting resources. “If we find out you cannot prove your age, we will impose penalties. It would have been better to wait for your time rather than wasting our money,” he said.
