JAMB Announces Mandatory NIN Requirement for UTME 2025 Registration
Why NIN is Essential for UTME 2025 Applicants
According to Hakeem AbdulHameed, the Ogun state JAMB coordinator, obtaining an NIN is crucial for generating a profile code necessary for registration. AbdulHameed emphasized that the NIN will also be used to create a unique profile for each candidate, ensuring better data security and reducing fraudulent activities. Candidates can generate their profile code by sending their NIN, followed by their 11-digit ID number, to either of JAMB’s USSD codes: 55019 or 66019, using a valid phone number that has never been used for UTME registration before.
Impact on Tertiary Admissions
JAMB reiterated that all admissions, whether for regular or non-regular programs, must be documented by the board. This includes part-time and distance learning programs, such as those offered by the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). AbdulHameed made it clear that no candidate would be allowed to participate in the UTME or its mock exams without successful biometrics verification. Additionally, candidates must ensure their data is accurate as no proxy or parent is permitted to handle registration or make changes to the candidate’s profile.
Security Measures and Data Integrity
The director of the Abeokuta NOUN study center, Professor Oyekunle Oluwayemisi Adegboyega, praised JAMB’s initiative, stating that the board’s efforts to secure candidate data are highly commendable. He also highlighted that NOUN, like JAMB, is committed to protecting its students’ data, especially ensuring the integrity of certificates issued to graduates.

Earlier, JAMB also clarified that any candidate whose biometrics verification fails during the examination will not be allowed to sit for the UTME or the mock version. This policy is part of the broader effort to prevent data manipulation and ensure a smooth, efficient registration
process for all applicants.
