Plateau Government Shuts Down Two Private Schools Over Substandard Facilities
The Plateau Ministry of Education has shut down two private schools in Jos for failing to meet the minimum operational standards. The schools, First Academy and Niret Private School, are located in Jos North and Jos South Local Government Areas, respectively.
Reason for School Closures
Mr. Sabastine John, the Director of Quality Assurance at the Ministry, revealed this decision during a press briefing on Monday in Jos. The closures were part of an ongoing verification exercise for all private schools in the state, aimed at ensuring quality education for children.
Poor Facilities and Non-compliance with Standards
According to John, the facilities in these two schools were in a deplorable state, and the management had not adhered to the required standards. “There is no conducive environment for quality teaching and learning to take place in these schools,” John said. “We cannot allow this situation to continue.”
Previous Attempts to Improve Standards
John also noted that First Academy had previously been closed two years ago for similar reasons. Despite a plea from the school’s management for re-opening, the school had failed to make the necessary improvements, leading to its closure again.
Government’s Commitment to Quality Education
The Plateau government emphasized its commitment to ensuring that all schools in the state meet the required guidelines for quality education. John called on the management of the affected schools to apply for reopening once all the identified issues are addressed.
