President Tinubu Appoints Kunle Nafiu as New NYSC Director-General

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Brigadier General Kunle Nafiu as the new Director-General (DG) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). He arrived at the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja on Thursday to officially assume the role as the 23rd DG of the organization.

Handing Over Ceremony

The outgoing DG, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, will formally hand over to Brigadier General Nafiu in a colorful ceremony later on Thursday. Nafiu’s appointment follows his tenure as the Chief of Staff to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede. He also served in the same capacity under the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Raised Abiodun Lagbaja.

Professional Background of Brigadier General Nafiu

Before his appointment as Chief of Staff, Nafiu served as a Directing Staff at the Army War College, Nigeria. He is an Artillery Officer and a member of the 47 Regular Course. Nafiu is a graduate of both the Armed Forces Command and Staff College and the US Army War College.

General Nafiu hails from Ileogbo, Aiyedire Local Government Area in Osun State. The Governor of Osun, Senator Ademola Adeleke, expressed his congratulations to Nafiu, describing him as a fine and disciplined professional. Adeleke also thanked President Tinubu for giving another Osun indigene the opportunity to contribute to the nation’s development.

The Governor’s statement, signed by Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the spokesperson to the governor, read: “I’m extremely delighted to learn of the appointment of Brigadier-General Nafiu Olakunle as the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The appointment is an affirmation of the confidence in the capacity of Brigadier-General Olakunle, and I’m thankful to Mr. President for the opportunity given to one of Osun’s finest citizens.”
