ASUU Provides N4.4 Million Scholarship for 22 Indigent Students at ABU
Scholarship Details and Beneficiaries
Comrade Haruna M. Jibril, the ASUU Chairman, shared that the scholarship was a part of the national body’s effort to support students. The national body allocated two scholarships, while the remaining 20 were funded by the Zaria branch. The number of beneficiaries has doubled this year, increasing from 10 recipients in 2024 to 22, following approval from the union’s congress.
The beneficiaries were carefully selected after a rigorous screening process conducted by a designated committee to ensure the recipients met the criteria for financial need.
Commitment to Continued Support
Comrade Jibril expressed ASUU’s commitment to expanding the scholarship program in the future, stating, “We will continue to support students from very poor backgrounds to enable them to continue their education.”
University’s Appreciation for ASUU’s Effort
The Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Professor Kabiru Bala, who was represented by the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Sahalu Junaid, commended ASUU for their ongoing support. He encouraged other unions within the university to follow ASUU’s lead by providing similar assistance to indigent students. He also praised ASUU for continuing this initiative for the second consecutive year, which has made a significant impact on students facing financial difficulties.
