Federal Polytechnic Idah Welcomes 4,245 New Students for the 2024/2025 Academic Session

On Saturday, March 1, 2025, the Federal Polytechnic, Idah, held its 38th matriculation ceremony, officially admitting 4,245 students into various National Diploma and Higher National Diploma programs for the 2024/2025 academic session. This milestone event also marked the second year of Dr. Yahaya Baba Usman’s tenure as Rector and the third matriculation ceremony he has presided over.

Rector’s Address: A Call to Uphold Discipline

During his address, Dr. Usman cautioned the newly matriculated students to avoid engaging in activities such as cultism, examination malpractices, indecent dressing, religious bigotry, and intolerance. He emphasized the importance of adhering to the institution’s rules and maintaining discipline throughout their academic careers. Additionally, Dr. Usman reminded students about the ban on sign-out ceremonies, warning that violators would face strict penalties.

Introduction of New Programs

Dr. Usman also announced the introduction of three new programs at the Polytechnic: Chemical Engineering, Agricultural Technology, and Banking and Finance. These programs are currently awaiting resource inspection to be officially launched.

Recognizing Student Achievement

Two students from the Polytechnic, Godwin Philomena Ojochenemi and Idoko Peace Enyo, both from the Urban and Regional Planning Department, were awarded 2nd and 3rd prizes in the Honourable Minister of Steel’s 2024 Essay Competition. The competition, themed “Reactivating the Ajaokuta Steel Company as a Means of Reinvigorating the Nigerian Economy,” saw keen participation from students across various tertiary institutions in Kogi State.

A Call to Seize Opportunities

Dr. Usman concluded his speech by urging the newly admitted students to make the most of their academic journey. He stressed that this matriculation represents a foundation for their future success, and he encouraged them to meet the challenges that lie ahead with determination and integrity.
