Governor Aiyedatiwa Appoints Prof. Adejuyigbe as New Vice Chancellor of UNIMED
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has officially appointed Prof. Ebuoluwa Adejuyigbe as the new Vice Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo. This appointment follows the completion of the tenure of Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, whose term ended on Sunday.
Appointment Based on Governing Council’s Recommendation
The appointment of Prof. Adejuyigbe came after the recommendation of the university’s Governing Council. She is a renowned Professor of Paediatrics and currently holds the position of Executive Director of the Central Office of Research at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife. She is also a Consultant Paediatrician at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital.
Prof. Adejuyigbe’s Professional Background
Adejuyigbe hails from Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State. She is a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Medicine and has served in various prestigious roles, including the former Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences at OAU. Additionally, she is the Vice-President of the African Society of Paediatric Infectious Diseases and Co-Chair of the National Child Health Technical Working Committee.
Interim Leadership Until Prof. Adejuyigbe Assumes Office
Prof. Adejuyigbe is set to officially assume the position of Vice Chancellor after the submission of the Visitation Panel’s report. In the meantime, Prof. Adolphus Odogun Loto, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration and Clinical Services, will serve as the Acting Vice Chancellor.
Constitution of the Visitation Panel
The Governor has also established a Visitation Panel, which will be chaired by Prof. Gbenga Olumekun. Other members of the panel include Elder Idowu Benjamin, Mr. Olumide Ogidan, Mr. Anthony Akala, and Mr. Richard Adeyinka Arifalo (Secretary).
Panel’s Terms of Reference
The Visitation Panel has been tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
- Examining the state of compliance with the University Statutes and approved programmes of study.
- Reviewing the financial management of the university, including subventions, grants, loans, and internally generated revenues.
- Assessing the adequacy of staff and staff development programmes.
- Examining industrial relations and recommending ways to achieve lasting peace and harmony.
- Assessing the state of the university’s landed properties and other assets.
- Determining compliance with previous Visitation Panel recommendations and the government’s white paper.
- Recommending measures to reposition the university for optimal performance.
The panel has been given six weeks to submit its final report.
