NANS Dismisses Allegations Against LASUED Vice Chancellor

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Lagos chapter, has rejected recent allegations made against the Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Professor Bidemi Lafiaji-Okuneye. The accusations, which include claims of irregularities in staff wages, poor welfare conditions, and pressure on students during exams, have been thoroughly investigated and proven to be false.

Allegations Debunked by NANS

During a press conference, NANS Chairman Abdul-Quadri AbdulRaheem addressed the allegations, stating that they were not only unfounded but also misleading. He emphasized that these claims were intended to tarnish the reputation of the institution and its leadership.

Investigation and Facility Tour Confirm No Wrongdoing

AbdulRaheem revealed that a detailed investigation had been conducted, which included a facility tour of LASUED. He engaged with students, staff, and key stakeholders, confirming that the university’s facilities have seen significant upgrades under the leadership of Professor Lafiaji-Okuneye. Notable improvements include investments from external partners such as HRM Oba Josiah Ikuyamiku, who built a modern lecture facility, Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who constructed an ultra-modern e-library, and HRM Oba Raji Sulaimon Adesina, who designed a new school entrance.

Vote of Confidence in LASUED Leadership

Following the investigation, NANS passed a vote of confidence in Professor Lafiaji-Okuneye, reaffirming their support for his leadership. AbdulRaheem urged the public and media to disregard the false allegations and instead support the ongoing progress of the institution.

Conclusion

In conclusion, NANS called on well-meaning Nigerians and stakeholders in the education sector to disregard the misinformation and continue supporting LASUED as it advances toward achieving academic excellence
