Tinubu Approves New Federal Varsities for Osun, Ekiti

President Bola Tinubu has signed bills establishing two new federal universities:
1. Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin Ekiti
- Focus: Technology-driven education, engineering, digital innovation, applied sciences, environmental sciences, climate change, renewable energy, waste management, and sustainable urban development.
2. Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies, Iragbiji, Osun State
- Focus: Advanced agricultural education, research, innovation, food security, climate-smart agriculture, agro-processing, rural development, entrepreneurship, and agribusiness.
Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, announced the development, emphasizing the universities’ roles in bridging knowledge gaps and promoting national development.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, previously recommended the institutions, highlighting their potential to enhance Nigeria’s industrialization, environmental sustainability, and food security.
Bamidele described the presidential assent as a “significant milestone” in tackling food insecurity and climate change challenges, benefiting both Osun and Ekiti States and contributing to national growth.
